Linux Mint has introduced two new tools aimed at enhancing user experience: System Information and System Administration. Announced by project leader Clement Lefebvre in the October 2025 monthly newsletter, these tools aim to streamline system management for Linux Mint users as well as those using LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition).<\/p>\n
The rebranded System Reports tool, now called System Information, plays a vital role in assisting users with troubleshooting hardware-related problems while also simplifying tasks such as multimedia codec installation and system restoration. The updated tool features four new sections\u2014USB, GPU, PCI, and BIOS\u2014that provide detailed insights into connected devices, graphics card capabilities, internal components, and motherboards.<\/p>\n
In addition to System Information, the new System Administration tool allows users to modify Linux Mint’s boot menu settings. Users can control the visibility of the menu, set timeouts, and customize boot parameters, with plans for additional features to be added in the future.<\/p>\n
Lefebvre emphasized the importance of having robust tools for troubleshooting problems effectively, stating that users need to provide comprehensive information to receive appropriate support.<\/p>\n
Alongside these enhancements, the team is developing the XSI (XApp Symbolic Icons) project to replace the existing Adwaita symbolic icons across all related projects. Moreover, work continues on a new applications menu for the Cinnamon desktop, slated to debut with the upcoming Linux Mint 22.3 release.<\/p>\n
