The latest release of PorteuX, version 2.4, is now available, bringing along significant updates and enhancements. This Slackware-based distribution, inspired by Slax and Porteus, is designed to be fast, lightweight, and portable.<\/p>\n

PorteuX 2.4 is powered by the Linux 6.17<\/strong> kernel and is available in eight different editions featuring various desktop environments, including GNOME 49.1<\/strong>, KDE Plasma 6.5.2<\/strong>, Xfce 4.20<\/strong>, Cinnamon 6.4.13<\/strong>, LXDE 0.11.1<\/strong>, LXQt 2.3<\/strong>, MATE 1.28.2<\/strong>, and COSMIC Beta 5<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Key highlights of this release include support for the newest NVIDIA 580.105.08<\/strong> graphics driver, enhanced touchpad functionality, and new features in the PorteuX Language Switcher that allow search and filter capabilities. Additionally, users can now change time zones and clock types using the new PorteuX Timezone Switcher.<\/p>\n

A new cheatcode, noupdateclock<\/code>, has been introduced to prevent the automatic update of the machine’s date and time upon startup. Also, users can utilize the kmap<\/code> cheatcode in Wayland sessions, with some exceptions. The LXQt edition has added support for HEIC images and now supports auto-loading for cron<\/code> and docker<\/code> daemons.<\/p>\n

Enhancements extend to the functionality as well; for example, the deactivate -f<\/code> command has been made more reliable. The linker flags are updated for improved performance and reduced binary sizes, and the PorteuX Modules application has been rewritten for better speed and reliability.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, improvements have been made across editions: the Xfce edition now includes an elementary-icon package that adapts icons dynamically between dark and light themes, while the LXDE edition features an updated theme, and the MATE edition comes with an improved search tool that displays results in a binary format.<\/p>\n

Many other fixes and performance enhancements have been made, including changes in startup scripts to avoid multiple sub-shell instances and improvements to the way modules are deactivated. Notably, the handling of date and time during boot has also been corrected.<\/p>\n
