Grml, a live bootable Linux distribution designed for system administrators and users of text tools, has officially announced the release of version 2025.12. This version is based on the Debian Testing\/Forky repositories as of December 11, 2025, and is powered by the Linux kernel 6.17<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The new release brings updates to the grml-live build system, enhancing its capability to create Grml-based live systems. It introduces a new TOR class and adds support for the grml-desktop package while establishing Debian Bookworm as the minimum host operating system.<\/p>\n

Grml 2025.12 also includes significant updates to its console scripts, removing support for several old scripts such as grepc, grepedit, and logview. The Zsh configuration, grml-zshrc, has been updated to allow syncing of global aliases from zshrc.local.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the release introduces three new packages: firmware-mediatek, gosop (a dependency for devscripts), and ImageMagick, which acts as a replacement for GraphicsMagick. In total, eleven Debian packages have been removed or replaced.<\/p>\n

Among the other notable changes, support for GRUB 0.x and early versions of syslinux has been eliminated from the grml2usb tool. The grml-hwinfo utility now collects information from UPower, and several bugs reported in the issue tracker have been fixed.<\/p>\n
