These AI features will fall into two main categories:<\/p>\n

    Implicit Features<\/strong>: These will enhance existing functionalities through on-device AI models, improving tools like text-to-speech and speech-to-text services to enhance accessibility.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Explicit Features<\/strong>: These new additions will utilize AI for tasks such as generating text in documents, managing files automatically, and other innovative applications.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The integration of AI will predominantly rely on local models, which Canonical has been developing through inference snaps that optimize models like Qwen<\/em> and DeepSeek<\/em>. The choice of models will depend on their licensing terms, aligning with Canonical\u2019s ethos.<\/p>\n

    Seager explained that the aim is to create a more context-aware OS, enabling agentic workflows through secure Snap confinement. This means Ubuntu will maintain strict controls over AI tools, ensuring they operate within defined parameters. He warned against deploying AI simply for the sake of it, noting such approaches rarely yield effective results.<\/p>\n

    Moreover, while Canonical reassures users that this AI integration won’t replace jobs, proficiency in AI tools may become increasingly valuable for engineers within the company.<\/p>\n
