German Linux computer producer TUXEDO Computers announced its development of an ARM-powered Linux laptop today. This upcoming laptop features a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite SoC and will operate on TUXEDO OS equipped with the KDE Plasma desktop environment.<\/p>\n
At the 2024 Computex Taipei technology fair last week, TUXEDO Computers showcased a prototype of its ARM notebook. This prototype is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite SoC with 12 cores and a clock speed of up to 4.6 GHz. It includes a built-in Adreno GPU operating at 1.25 GHz clock speed and a 20W TDP, alongside 32 GB of LPDDRX5 RAM.<\/p>\n
\u201cBenchmates from Qualcomm indicate that the new Snapdragon surpasses competitors, including Apple\u2019s M2 SoCs, in performance while also offering greater energy efficiency. Our initial tests corroborate these results,\u201d stated TUXEDO Computers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Featuring an aluminum chassis, the ARM laptop includes a 14-inch IPS screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 2560\u00d71600 resolution, 400 nits of brightness, and covering 100% of the sRGB color spectrum. Regarding connectivity, it is equipped with USB 4 and HDMI ports.<\/p>\n
Software-wise, TUXEDO Computers is expanding their efforts by adapting their Ubuntu-based TUXEDO OS<\/a><\/strong> to work on the ARM architecture, planning to incorporate the latest KDE Plasma desktop as the default environment.<\/p>\n
TUXEDO Computers clarified that their upcoming offerings will not extend to high-performance gaming or high-end notebooks but rather target a business-class sector, drawing parallels to models like the TUXEDO Pulse<\/a><\/strong> and TUXEDO InfinityBook Pro<\/a><\/strong>. However, they noted that the ARM laptop project is still in its early alpha stages with some drivers pending that should be resolved by future updates including Linux kernel releases 6.10<\/a><\/strong> and 6.11.<\/p>\n
