These adjust the sound of the project as a whole (the \u2018master mix\u2019 composed of all individual tracks and any realtime effects applied to them) and are usually done as the final stage of editing prior to export.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Brand <strong>new <em>Compressor<\/em> and <em>Limiter<\/em> effects<\/strong> are included in this update to Audacity, along with a set of handy presets the developers say are applicable to a wide range of use cases. Gain reduction history is also available when using them as realtime effects.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Audacity 3.6 improves its appearance with <strong>revamped light and dark themes<\/strong>, though the old theme remains available, now called \u2018Classic\u2019, and users can switch via the <em>Preferences &gt; Interface<\/em> pane.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Other notable changes in Audacity 3.6:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>FFmpeg 7 support<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ability to paste audio files into Audacity<\/strong> <strong>with<\/strong> <kbd>ctrl<\/kbd> + <kbd>v<\/kbd><\/li>\n<li><strong>Alternative waveform colours can be styled by custom themes<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Track name overlay preference and \u201cblend themes\u201d preference removed<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>New <em>Extras &gt; Export &gt; Export Selected Audio<\/em> option<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Redesigned \u201cWhat\u2019s New\u201d dialog<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Option to show\/hide RMS in waveforms added to <em>View<\/em> menu<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>OpenVINO effects download link now available in-app<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><p>Plus a bunch of bug fixes, including: \u2013<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Track scrolls back into view when recording to a new track<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Hitting<\/strong> <kbd>esc<\/kbd> <strong>in some preference dialogs no longer saves them<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Stray orange lines in the high contrast theme removed<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Quality slider for Ogg export on Linux works again<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><p>For a lick more detail on these and other changes read through the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/audacity\/audacity\/releases\/tag\/Audacity-3.6.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">release notes on Github<\/a>, or watch the following video showcase that the Audacity team uploaded to promote this update:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><h2>Download Audacity<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>If you think the above improvements sound sweet, and you want to try them out for yourself, you can download the latest version of Audacity for Windows, macOS, or Linux from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacityteam.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the official website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The Linux version available to download there comes as an AppImage, a standalone binary that will run on most Linux distributions. Note: to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omgubuntu.co.uk\/2023\/04\/appimages-libfuse2-ubuntu-23-04\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">use AppImages on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS<\/a> you need to install a small library from the Ubuntu repository first.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>While you will find <a href=\"https:\/\/flathub.org\/apps\/org.audacityteam.Audacity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Audacity on Flathub<\/a> be aware that is not an official package, nor is the the Audacity snap (still on v3.1) that <em>App Center<\/em> in Ubuntu shows if you search for \u2018Audacity\u2019 (v3.4 is available in the noble repo as a DEB, if you\u2019d rather). <\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new version of the open-source, cross-platform audio editor Audacity is available to download, kitted out with some major new features.
