The GNOME Project announced the release of GNOME 46.4 today, marking the fourth maintenance update to the current GNOME 46 “Kathmandu” desktop environment series. This update introduces a variety of improvements and bug fixes across the board, along with updated translations.
Arriving one month after GNOME 46.3, the 46.4 update enhances functionality in several key areas, including connectivity to WPA2 Enterprise networks, the on-screen keyboard layout for Persian, startup notifications in overview, keyboard navigation within app folders, and handling nested popovers on Wayland. It also resolves visual glitches in the looking-glass effect.
The GNOME Control Center (Settings) has been updated to version 46.4, focusing on minor fixes across various settings panels including Accessibility, Apps, Network, Privacy, Users, and WWAN. Additionally, the GNOME Remote Desktop has been upgraded to the same version to address handling of invalid x224Crq data and to fix a leak concerning file descriptors.
Meanwhile, the Epiphany (GNOME Web) web browser version 46.3 sees several important modifications: it disables Firefox Sync, guarantees that new windows will open in non-incognito mode, enhances the application mode when the “always start in incognito mode” setting is active, and rectifies multiple crash issues.
Evince 46.3.1 document viewer is now part of this update, featuring enhanced detection of non-seekable files and a modification to stop Evince from trying to handle non-seekable files directly. The GNOME Music 46.1 music player is also included, offering better search capabilities, refined processing of poor image formats, and additional corrections.
GNOME Software 46.4 resolves issues linked to formatting disruptions caused by the use of “<code>” in AppStream metadata. Additionally, GNOME Online Accounts 3.50.4 now allows the editing of details for Exchange accounts upon re-authentication and ensures correct saving and resetting of settings for TLS certificate errors. Furthermore, GNOME Bluetooth 46.1 presents a solution to a previously reported bug affecting device icons.
Another inclusion, GNOME Builder 46.3, comes with features like omitting the Codespell plugin when spellchecking is disabled, restoring focus to the editor after a document is formatted, and enabling the Swift-format plugin to utilize the build pipeline for locating SDK extension with appropriate tooling. It also ensures the Terminal accurately checks for ctrl mask to enable ctrl+click for opening links and enhances the Clang-format and Xml-pack plugins.
