CoreELEC 21.1 ‘Just enough OS’ (JeOS) Linux distribution, tailored for Amlogic hardware and leveraging the renowned Kodi media center software, has been released featuring enhanced hardware compatibility and new features.
The latest iteration, based on Kodi 21.1 “Omega”, adds support for various Amlogic devices such as Ugoos AM8 (Pro), Ugoos SK1, Tencent Aurora 5X, X96 X10, and Kinhank/Orbsmart G1. This enables users to deploy CoreELEC on these platforms for a robust Kodi media center setup.
Moreover, CoreELEC 21.1 introduces compatibility for S928X and S5 Amlogic SoCs, along with Wi-Fi module support for AP6275P, RTL8852BE, and RTL8761BU wireless cards. It also provides PCIe Wi-Fi support across all compatible devices and a Gigabit driver for hardware using JLSemi chips.
Further enhancing its functionality, the release supports the Amlogic IR transmitter, 3D playback, MVC frame packaging, and both (F)TAB and (F)SBS formats, although this latter feature is currently limited to devices utilizing the hdmitx20 driver.
Some core packages have been updated as well, including the Samba file and printer sharing software to version 4.19.6, GStreamer multimedia framework to version 1.24.2, Mesa graphics stack to version 24.0.5, x265 encoder to version 3.6, Docker containerization software to version 26.0.1, and libarchive archiving library to version 3.7.3.
Under the hood, CoreELEC 21.1 is powered by Linux kernel 6.6.26 LTS. This release builds on the major CoreELEC 21 release that introduced Dolby Vision support for certain Amlogic devices like the Homatics/Dune R 4K Plus, RockTek G2, and Nokia 8010.
CoreELEC 21.1 is available for download as dedicated images for your supported Amlogic device, including Khadas VIM1S, Khadas VIM4, Libre Computer LaFrite, Libre Computer LePotato, ODROID-C4, ODROID-HC4, ODROID-N2, ODROID-N2L, Radxa ZERO, and Radxa ZERO 2, as well as generic images, from the project’s GitHub page.
