Uri Herrera announced today the release and general availability of Nitrux 3.6.1 as the latest ISO snapshot of this rolling-release, immutable, and systemd-free distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux and using OpenRC.
Still powered by a Liqurix-flavored Linux 6.9 kernel, Nitrux 3.6.1 appears as a modest update that primarily introduces support for more languages, such as Ukrainian, Georgian, Korean, Kurdish, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Albanian, Serbian, Swedish, Turkish, Catalan, Tatar Crimean, Czech, Welsh, Danish, Greek Modern, Estonian, Persian, Finnish, Irish Gaelic, and Hindi.
Additionally, Nitrux 3.6.1 introduces the pipx package manager, a new tool that installs and manages Python applications in isolated environments. This release also includes new desktop launchers for installing the LibreOffice office suite and Bauh, a graphical interface for Linux software management.
For those using laptops, Nitrux 3.6.1 offers enhanced battery performance with an updated TLP configuration, improved graphic capabilities with the newest Mesa 24.2.1, and better NVIDIA 560.35.03 drivers, alongside improved system performance through a refreshed Sysctl configuration.
Since Nitrux 3.6.1 is designed as a new installation media for users who want to deploy the immutable and systemd-free operating system on new hardware, it comes with an improved installation experience where an active Internet connection is no longer required to install the distro and support for devices pre-installed with Windows that use a 100M ESP.
On top of that, the Nitrux Update Tool System (NUTS) utility for users who want to keep their Nitrux installations up to date has been updated to version 2.1.6, a release that adds sections to nuts-ccu to mark files and directories for removal, correctly sorts the OpenRC services, and removes unneeded code.
A couple of bugs were addressed as well in this release, so check out the release announcement page for more details. Nitrux 3.6.1 is available for download right now from the official website or by using the direct download link below.
