KDE Plasma 6.1.5 Update: Enhancing User Experience with New Bug Fixes

The KDE Project announced the release of KDE Plasma 6.1.5 today, marking the final maintenance release in the KDE Plasma 6.1 desktop environment series, aimed at resolving numerous bugs to enhance both stability and reliability.

Arriving approximately five weeks after KDE Plasma 6.1.4, this update brings enhancements to the speed and performance of the Plasma Discover’s search function, enables drag-and-drop capabilities onto a Plasma panel in Wayland when set to auto-hide, and restores the ability to navigate out of the Favorites grid view in the Kickoff application launcher using arrow keys.

Further improvements include better search results for locations with umlauts within the Plasma’s Weather Report widget, added capability to remember the state of the “Toggle Touchpad” global shortcut after a reboot with the touchpad turned off, and enhanced multi-finger touch swipe and gestures support on touchscreens.

Additionally, KDE Plasma 6.1.5 introduces the ability to adjust the colors of any recolorable GTK application when the system’s global theme is changed, reorganizes Plasma System Monitor’s table sorting by column header clicks, and boosts reliability in changing languages on the Region & Language settings page, ensuring better handling of potential setup discrepancies by different distros.

Regarding System Settings, this release addresses a crash that occurred every time you closed the “Login Screen (SDDM)” page while you were on its Behavior sub-page. It also fixes a bug that broke SVG wallpaper support in KDE Plasma 6.1.4 when using “Centered” placement mode.

Several other issues were addressed in KDE Plasma 6.1.5, including an issue that could cause pop-ups for Plasma panel widgets to be resized to either their original size or a much smaller size after changing the screen configuration, as well as a Qt bug that caused widgets in Plasma’s Widget Explorer to overlap each other after clearing the search field text when animations were globally disabled.

Also fixed is a complex bug that could cause the KWin window and composite manager to crash when X11 or XWayland-using apps changed the window stacking order, an annoying bug that caused text copied from cells in LibreOffice Calc to not be saved into the clipboard, a bug that caused tooltips to appear at the last location of the cursor when using a stylus, and a bug affecting VLC Media Player’s MPRIS play/pause controls.

Updated translations and several other changes are also present in KDE Plasma 6.1.5, so check out the full changelog for more details. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the stable software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution for the Plasma 6.1.5 packages and update your installation as soon as possible.
