Shotcut 24.09 Update: Major Bug Fixes and Key Improvements Unveiled

Shotcut 24.09 was launched today as the most recent stable update of this free, open-source video editor that operates across different platforms and is developed using Qt and MLT framework.

The release of Shotcut 24.09 comes closely following Shotcut 24.08, aiming to resolve a number of significant issues highlighted by its users. Problems fixed include challenges with seeking and video freezing under certain conditions, incorrect frame rates for videos from Android Cameras, and the absence of the Reverb audio filter in the Windows version.

In addition to addressing these defects, this version also corrects troubles with the “Apply Copied Filters” feature found in Timeline > Clip, unanticipated keyframe additions in the Color Grading video filter, a color problem within the JPEG export preset, and an issue making WMA audio files containing DTS audio unplayable.

Beyond these corrections, version 24.09 introduces enhancements such as new “Increase Text Size” and “Decrease Text Size” options in the Notes section’s context menu, and a new Reframe video filter which is specifically used during exports, accompanied by a new Reframe button located under Export > Video.

Last but not least, Shotcut 24.09 adds a Resample option under Export > Video with a warning dialog to enable the oft-misused export video resolution, aspect ratio, and frame rate fields, and adds a warning dialog to notify users when changing the Settings > Video Mode or Timeline > Output > Edit options with a project open.

Check out the release notes on the project’s GitHub page for more details about the changes implemented in Shotcut 24.09, from where you can download the software as a universal AppImage or Linux binary that you can run on virtually any GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything on your computer.
