Today marks the release of Inkscape 1.4, a significant upgrade to this robust open-source and cross-platform SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) editor, bringing a range of new features and enhancements.
More than one year and four months after the launch of Inkscape 1.3, version 1.4 introduces a new Filter Gallery dialog to simplify the process of finding the right filter, new grid selector buttons for easier identification of your preferred grid, and the addition of modular grids to assist in layout planning and icon creation.
This version also features a unified font browser preview for effortless browsing of your font library, support for internal links in exported PDF files, customization options for the styling and basic shape of all handles, the capability to open Affinity Designer files, and the inclusion of over 500 new icons in the Dash theme.
Additionally, Inkscape 1.4 enhances the Shape Builder tool for quick edits on raster (pixel) images within the software, updates the Swatches dialog to integrate a new drop-down menu showcasing color palette previews, improves the handling of palette files, and upgrades the SVG Font Editor to facilitate the sorting of glyphs and the removal of pairs.
Inkscape 1.4 brings together the Objective Attributes and Object Properties dialogs into a single interface, simplifying the process of modifying various object properties. Additionally, it features enhanced options in Ruler and Taper Stroke LPE, improved node deletion behavior, new templates for folding booklets, and added preview support for the Spray tool.
As if that weren’t enough, Inkscape 1.4 also delivers quicker extensions, a plethora of new command line options, support for more color palette formats including CIELAB, Adobe Color Book, and Adobe Swatch Exchange, refreshed translations, and numerous bug fixes.
