Solus 4.7 Launches with Linux 6.12 LTS, GNOME 47, KDE Plasma 6.2, and Xfce 4.20 Upgrades

The Solus development team has announced the release of Solus 4.7, the latest iteration of their independent rolling-release distribution, which is available for Budgie, GNOME, KDE Plasma, and Xfce editions. This version is a follow-up to Solus 4.6 and features the Linux 6.12 LTS kernel, Mesa 24.3 graphics stack, and a variety of updated desktop environments, including Budgie 10.9.2, GNOME 47.3, KDE Plasma 6.2.5, and Xfce 4.20.

Dubbed "Endurance," the Solus 4.7 release enhances user experience with out-of-the-box firmware support for a broader range of NVIDIA GPUs, especially catering to the RTX 4000 series. Furthermore, the team is promoting GNOME Software and Plasma Discover as replacement package managers to the original Solus Software Center, which now supports Flatpak and offers improved application descriptions.

Developer David Harder encourages users to try these new software centers, highlighting the benefits they offer to enhance the overall user experience. Existing users of Solus can simply update their installations via the default package manager, as Solus operates on a rolling-release model.

In addition to the updated desktop environments and software centers, Solus 4.7 also includes the latest versions of popular applications such as Mozilla Firefox 134.0.2, Mozilla Thunderbird 128.6.0, and LibreOffice 24.8.4.

Users can download Solus 4.7 from the official website for 64-bit systems, while existing users can simply upgrade their current installations to enjoy the new features and enhancements.
