What’s New in Firefox 135: Enhanced Tab Page, AI Chatbot Integration, and More!

A new update for Mozilla Firefox, version 135, has been released, continuing the browser’s commitment to improvements and user-friendly features. Following the previous update, Firefox 134, which introduced several enhancements—including a revamped New Tab page layout for U.S. users and new touch-hold gestures for Linux—the latest version brings significant changes to its New Tab interface as well.

Firefox 135 expands the revamped New Tab page layout to all locales, enhancing the appearance without completely overhauling it. The Firefox logo has been repositioned, and the search box, site shortcuts, and Stories have been prioritized, with Stories now displaying in four columns on wider screens. Future updates promise further refinements, allowing users to control the types of Stories recommended based on their browsing history, as indicated by an updated privacy page from Mozilla.

Additionally, Firefox 135 rolls out a global implementation of credit card autofill, originally introduced in select locations.

Mozilla has also renamed the “Copy without Site Tracking” feature to “Copy Clean Link,” aiming to clarify its purpose of providing cleaner links free from tracking.

Gradually being made available is the AI Chatbot access, which remains an opt-in feature through Settings > Firefox Labs. Users can now explore this functionality regardless of previous regional limitations.

The update also expands support for Firefox Translations, allowing translations from Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean into various languages, now including Russian.

On the security front, Firefox 135 implements certificate transparency for servers utilizing certificates from Mozilla’s Root CA Program and begins introducing CRLite certificate revocation checking to enhance security.

To safeguard users further, the update includes measures to prevent sites from generating excessive history entries that clutter the back and forward navigation.

Firefox 135 enhances the web development experience by integrating a new console command for in-page searches, support for post-quantum key exchange in HTTP/3, and expanded WebAuthn features.

For Ubuntu users, the Firefox 135 update includes native messaging support for snap installations, ensuring seamless integration with applications like KeePassXC.

Notably, Firefox 135 removes the ‘Do Not Track’ option, modifying its approach to privacy—but still offers users a “Tell websites not to sell or share my data” setting which expresses user intent rather than providing absolute assurance.

The update will commence rollout today, and users can either wait for it to arrive automatically or choose from multiple installation methods, including the official Snap package, official Flatpak, or official Firefox DEB from the Mozilla APT repository.
