Introducing the Framework Desktop and 2-in-1 Framework Laptop 12: A New Era of Modular Computing

Framework recently unveiled two new products at their “Second Gen” event: the Framework Desktop and the Framework Laptop 12. Additionally, an updated version of the Framework Laptop 13 was also introduced.

The Framework Desktop is a compact 4.5L Mini-ITX machine powered by AMD’s Ryzen AI Max “Strix Halo” processors, which include discrete-level Radeon 8060S graphics and 16 CPU cores capable of 5.1GHz boosts. It supports up to 128GB of LPDDR5x RAM and offers storage options up to 16TB, all while featuring a semi-custom 400W power supply housed in a standard Flex ATX form factor. The mainboard adheres to Mini-ITX specifications and boasts an array of connectivity options: two USB 4 ports, two DisplayPort ports, an HDMI port, and a 5Gbit Ethernet port alongside standard 120mm CPU fans and Wi-Fi 7 capabilities. Pre-orders for the Framework Desktop begin at $1,099 USD, with shipping expected to commence in early Q3 2025. The Framework Laptop 12 is a colorful convertible 2-in-1 laptop aimed at students. It features a 12.2-inch (1920×1200) touchscreen with a peak brightness of 400 nits, powered by 13th Gen Intel Core i3 and i5 processors. It supports configurations of up to 48GB RAM and 2TB of storage, along with Wi-Fi 6E. The laptop will be available in five colors including lavender, sage, gray, black, and bubblegum, with pre-orders set to open in April, and first shipments anticipated in mid-2025. Importantly, the Framework Laptop 12 will support both Windows 11 and Linux operating systems, and its modular design allows for easy upgrades. However, official pricing has not yet been disclosed. Lastly, the updated Framework Laptop 13 features AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processors, along with improvements to Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, an updated thermal system, and a redesigned keyboard. The laptop starts at $899 USD for the DIY version that excludes storage and a preinstalled operating system, and $1,099 USD for the fully assembled model.
