The upcoming release of Ubuntu 25.04, codenamed ‘Plucky Puffin’, has revealed its default wallpaper and mascot art. Continuing the tradition of unique visual themes for each Ubuntu release, this version prominently features a puffin on a purple gradient background. The design incorporates polygonal edge detailing, maintaining the aesthetic continuity associated with the Ubuntu brand.
The wallpaper will be available in four versions: colour (default), light, dimmed, and dark, catering to different user preferences. For those who prefer alternatives, a selection of community-sourced wallpapers will also be accessible.
There are some concerns about the current wallpaper design, specifically regarding noticeable banding issues. This might require a revision to improve visual quality before the official release.
The puffin mascot appears larger than previous iterations, which some users might find advantageous while others may struggle to adjust. The wallpaper will be included in daily builds leading up to the official release on April 27th, coinciding with the Ubuntu 25.05 beta.
Feedback regarding the new visuals is welcomed, encouraging discussions on the future direction of Ubuntu’s aesthetic presentation.
