Tauon Music Player Introduces Sleek Transparency Mode for Linux Users

A new version of the Tauon music player, Tauon 8.0, has been released, introducing a range of new features alongside a visually appealing update exclusive to Linux users. This version has been fully migrated to SDL3, a highly efficient cross-platform multimedia library, enhancing stability and laying the groundwork for additional capabilities.

Among the notable features, users can now access a menu option for the stop button, allowing them to customize stop behavior, such as an “always” stop after an album. The update also integrates support for LRCLIB, enabling users to easily fetch synced lyrics.

For those who use Discord, the new version improves support for Discord RPC, which now displays the player name instead of a generic "playing" label, and separates album and artist details onto distinct lines. Furthermore, a feature called Shuffle Lockdown that streamlines UI distraction and restricts playback to shuffled songs has been made easier to access from the main menu.

Linux-exclusive updates include a new ‘Transparent’ theme mode, accessible via MENU > Settings > Theme > Transparent accent mode. This option allows designated parts of the UI to become semi-transparent, allowing users to see elements of their desktop background. When used alongside desktop environments that support UI blur plugins like KDE Plasma and GNOME Shell, this feature enhances the visual experience significantly.

Additional changes in Tauon 8.0 include:

  • Introduction of a new ‘Charmed’ theme, previously only available to supporters.
  • Highlighting in the drop region for easy file drag-and-drop.
  • A mini mode that remains "always on top" for Wayland users.
  • The radio search box now defaults to show a “Developer Picks” section.
  • Various bug fixes.

This update solidifies Tauon‘s reputation as a flexible and highly customizable music player. For more details, you can view the official change-log on GitHub.
