GNOME 47.6 Resolves Black Screen Issues for NVIDIA Users in Multi-Monitor Configurations

The GNOME Project has released version 47.6 of the GNOME desktop environment, providing key updates and bug fixes, particularly addressing issues with multi-monitor setups using NVIDIA graphics drivers. This new maintenance release follows the decision to skip version 47.5, delivering various fixes to enhance stability.

The update also restores Epiphany’s search functionality within the history dialog, rectifies a crashing issue in GNOME Calculator when using the Shift+Insert key, and includes a workaround in GNOME Console to prevent crashes. Moreover, initialization troubles with X11 displays in xdg-desktop-portal-gnome were resolved.

Nautilus, the Files manager, underwent multiple bug fixes enhancing file view transitions, improving selector behavior for Google Drive files, and ensuring proper space calculation during archive extractions. Additional adjustments include a correction for search cancellations in GNOME Text Editor and a fix for GNOME Software’s Flatpak plugin while updating operations.

GNOME Maps benefits from a fix ensuring accurate timezone offsets in MOTIS results, aligning timestamps appropriately for daylight saving time. Also addressed were issues in the GNOME Control Center concerning duplicate entries in the Keyboard panel and memory access problems in the Network panel.
