NVIDIA 580 Linux Graphics Driver Launch: Enhanced Wayland Support Unveiled!

NVIDIA has launched the NVIDIA 580 series of graphics drivers, marking a notable update for their GPUs on Linux, BSD, and Solaris platforms. This release includes enhanced support for Wayland with the introduction of the fifo-v1 protocol for Vulkan, along with fixes for crashes in GTK 4 applications using the Vulkan backend on Wayland.

A significant feature in this driver is the reduction of latency for display interrupts, achieved by deferring certain tasks until later to optimize performance. Although this feature is turned off by default, users can enable it by setting a specific parameter when loading the nvidia.ko kernel module.

Furthermore, the NVIDIA 580 driver improves VR experiences by defaulting the RMIntrLockingMode feature to help minimize stutter during operation. Users have the option to disable this feature with the appropriate settings.

Additional updates within the driver include revised GPU clock reporting in system tools, an “OutputBitsPerComponent” attribute for more precise color component management, and numerous bug fixes for enhanced compatibility with various hardware and applications, including improvements for HDMI displays and pre-Turing GPUs.

For more comprehensive details, users can consult the changelog and download the latest version, 580.76.05, which is now recommended for all users.
