NVIDIA Driver 580.82.07: Enhanced Smooth Motion Support for GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs

NVIDIA has released the 580.82.07 graphics driver, which introduces support for NVIDIA Smooth Motion on GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs. This update is the second release in the NVIDIA 580 series, aimed at improving the functionality of their GPUs across different operating systems, including Linux, BSD, and Solaris.

This minor update addresses a regression found in the previous 580.65.06 release that could cause Vulkan applications to freeze on Wayland systems. Additionally, it rectifies a bug that resulted in the /sys/class/drm/.../enabled files consistently reporting "disabled" for certain NVIDIA GPU connectors.

The initial release of the NVIDIA 580 series included significant enhancements for Wayland, such as support for the fifo-v1 protocol and bug fixes for GTK 4 apps that could crash when utilizing the Vulkan backend. It also featured optimizations that lower latency in display interrupts and enabled the RMIntrLockingMode by default, which can help reduce stuttering when using VR.

For users interested in the detailed updates included in this driver version, the changelog is available on NVIDIA’s official website, and it is recommended for all users as a production-ready release.
