Fwupd 2.0.15 Introduces Support for NVIDIA ConnectX-6, ConnectX-7, and ConnectX-8 NICs

Fwupd 2.0.15 has been released, marking the fifteenth maintenance update of the open-source Linux firmware updating utility. This latest version adds support for a variety of devices, including NVIDIA’s ConnectX-6, ConnectX-7, and ConnectX-8 network interface controllers, child devices from Jabra’s Evolve2 series, and the Foxconn SDX61 modem.

In addition to the new hardware support, fwupd 2.0.15 brings several enhancements and fixes. Users can now use the parent name as a prefix for child devices, and it introduces new commands for better Fish shell completion. Another notable change is the allowance for firmware archives to be named with a .CAB extension rather than just .cab.

The update also brings improvements in how fwupd handles certain devices. It now accurately erases Firehose modem devices, refers to Elan touchpads and Intel PCH SPI devices with better names, and requires a full system shutdown for Micron NVMe updates. The update enhances the installation process by imposing additional requirements for the default PS5512 development board.

Moreover, fwupd 2.0.15 addresses significant bugs, including issues with Goodix device enumeration and firmware report submissions without using the --force option. Build issues affecting FreeBSD and version number discrepancies for BnR MTD devices were also resolved.

For more detailed information about the changes in this release, you can visit the project’s GitHub page where the source tarball is also available for download. It is recommended to install fwupd via the stable software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution.
