Linux Mint’s developers are focused on the upcoming release of Linux Mint 22.3, which is expected to launch in December 2025. This version will continue to build on the recently launched Linux Mint 22.2 and will be accompanied by the development of LMDE 7, which is based on the new Debian 13 release.
Linux Mint 22.3 aims to introduce several enhancements, particularly regarding the Cinnamon desktop environment. One of the most notable changes will be a revamped Mint Menu applet that maintains the traditional three-pane layout while improving its overall design and information density. This update will include a prominent user profile header, complete with an avatar and name, as well as quick access to user folders and improved labeling for common actions.
Additionally, the new main app menu will allow users to swiftly reach session management options like lock, logout, and reboot. The developers are also considering adding settings to let users customize this new layout for familiarity.
Moreover, Linux Mint 22.3 will enhance its integration with Wayland, focusing on better keyboard handling and input methods. Beyond this, users can expect improvements to Nemo, the file manager, which will receive RegEx capabilities and other enhancements.
