MKVToolNix 95.0 Enhances Chapter Generation for Superior MKV Manipulation

MKVToolNix has released version 95.0, introducing enhancements to its chapter generation feature and several bug fixes. This update, titled “Goodbye Stranger,” allows users to add chapter placeholders for appended files, which are then automatically replaced with the respective file titles. Additionally, the new version improves the display of matrix data from MP4 files to accurately reflect roll and yaw values in the output MKV files.

A significant new feature is the inclusion of a --date argument in the mkvmerge command to set date metadata. The release also addresses a bug concerning PCM audio track packetization, ensuring mkvmerge consistently outputs frames with 40 milliseconds of samples, regardless of source file durations. Furthermore, there was a fix for increased memory usage in the MP4/QuickTime reader when dealing with PCM audio.

Under the hood, MKVToolNix 95.0 adds support for building with Boost 1.89.0 C++ libraries, requiring Boost version 1.74.0 or newer for source compilation. This version drop support for Ubuntu 24.10 following its end of life last June, while adding compatibility for the newly released Debian 13 "Trixie." The software continues to support additional distributions including Ubuntu 25.04, Fedora Linux 42, AlmaLinux 10, and CentOS Stream 10.
