ONLYOFFICE 9.1 Launches with Enhanced PDF Editing Tools and Performance Improvements

A new version of ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors, the open-source office suite compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux, has been released. Version 9.1 introduces several enhancements and refinements across its suite, which includes a word processor, spreadsheet tool, presentation creator, form builder, and a PDF viewer/editor.

Key Features in ONLYOFFICE 9.1

The updated version allows all components to now support HEIF images and introduces features like charts that can leverage external data sources, enriching the user experience. Print preview has also been improved with a color mode option.

Collaboration tools saw significant upgrades, particularly in how comments are managed within the editor’s side panel. Users can now configure the display of resolved and open comments more flexibly. Additionally, file conversion capabilities have improved, enabling conversion of PDF and PPTX formats to text files.

A noteworthy addition to the PDF Editor is the new Redact tools. This feature simplifies the process of removing sensitive information or entire pages from documents, allowing users to redact easily with a dedicated tab.

The PDF Editor has also seen an increase in annotation shapes, including rectangles, circles, and arrows, making it easier to highlight details within documents. Furthermore, users can copy graphics and forms into PDF documents and add SmartArt and charts directly.

Enhancements in Spreadsheet Editor

The Spreadsheet Editor in ONLYOFFICE 9.1 boasts performance optimizations, offering lookup functions that are significantly faster—up to four times quicker for exact and linear searches. Memory usage for formula calculations has been reduced, and a new text direction button has been introduced for better support for right-to-left languages.

Additional features include improved logic for mixed data types, date filters in pivot tables, and new support for MathML formulas. The interface has also seen upgrades, with a new Table Design tab for table formatting options accessible directly in the toolbar.

Document, Presentation, and Forms Editors

The Document Editor now permits section breaks within nested content controls and supports HWPML text document viewing. The Presentation Editor introduces a new Master Slider tab and features an embedded media player for macOS users. Forms Editor enhancements focus on improving the user interface for editing fields.

An important security fix is also included in this release, addressing a previously identified XSS vulnerability in hyperlink processing.

ONLYOFFICE 9.1 is available for users on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It can be downloaded directly from the ONLYOFFICE website or from the GitHub releases page. Users on Linux are encouraged to install the official ONLYOFFICE Snap or through Flathub to ensure automatic updates.
