Enhancements in Calibre 8.13: Open-Source E-Book Manager Boosts Library Export on Linux

Calibre, the popular open-source e-book management software, has released version 8.13, which focuses on improvements for users on Linux. This small update enhances the library export feature for Linux distributions that mount /tmp in RAM, eliminating the use of the /tmp directory when handling large Full-Text Search (FTS) databases. Additionally, it allows users to define their search expressions in a more user-friendly, multi-line edit box, improving the virtual library experience.

The update also addresses several bugs, including a fix for the ebooks.com plugin in the Get Books feature and a resolution for the broken CALIBRE_OVERRIDE_DATABASE_PATH environmental variable. Previously, a regression from version 8.11 caused errors when attempting to open an e-book from the search results while a search was still running; this has now been resolved.

Windows users will notice that Calibre 8.13 now utilizes the Windows API for executing programs, which further decouples it from the Calibre environment. Improvements have also been made to the Todoist and NZZ news sources within this update.

The release follows shortly after version 8.12, which brought support for the latest Tolino firmware and allowed users to set arbitrary HTTP headers for requests. For more detailed information about the changes in both versions, users can refer to the release notes. Version 8.13 can be downloaded for 64-bit and ARM64 (AArch64) Linux systems from the official website or installed as a Flatpak app from Flathub.
