Daily Builds of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Now Available for Testing!

Daily build images for Ubuntu 26.04, code-named ‘Resolute Raccoon’, are now accessible for download, marking the official start of development for the upcoming long-term support (LTS) release. These builds, generated daily from the latest code revisions, offer a way for users to test and report issues with forthcoming changes in the release.

The daily builds will continue throughout the development cycle until Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is launched on April 23, 2026. Their introduction serves as a significant marker for the community, signaling that development has commenced.

These builds undergo minimal automated checks, ensuring basic functionalities like booting to the desktop and the installer’s appearance but are not intended as stable daily drivers. Users eager to experience the development process are encouraged to install these builds on spare hardware or virtual machines, understanding that bugs and system failures are likely and part of the daily build experience.

As part of this cycle, Ubuntu will also resume releasing monthly snapshots, with the first one expected at the end of November. During the initial months of development, significant changes often occur as packages and tooling are updated, but substantial user-facing features typically emerge later in the cycle.

For those interested in testing the daily builds, they can be downloaded from the Ubuntu CD image server. Users may find that the ‘current’ images can sometimes be a few days old due to potential bugs causing build failures, which delays their availability.

What features or enhancements would you like Ubuntu to focus on in the upcoming 26.04 release?
