PearOS Makes a Comeback: Now Powered by Arch Linux and Featuring KDE Plasma Desktop

pearOS is making a comeback with its latest release, pearOS NiceC0re 25.12, powered by Arch Linux and featuring the KDE Plasma 6.5.3 desktop environment. This new version promises a distinct modern interface that mimics the aesthetics of recent macOS iterations, complete with a Liquid Gel design.

Originally developed by David Tavares in 2011, pearOS started as a derivative of Ubuntu, emphasizing a visual resemblance to macOS. Over the years, it underwent several transformations, including a rebranding to Comice OS before ultimately fading from development in 2014. The project was later revived by Brazilian developer Rodrigo Marques and has now been redefined under the stewardship of Romanian developer Alexandru Bălan.

pearOS NiceC0re features a fresh installation experience through a new installer built with Electron and Node.js, currently in beta testing. This version boasts a rolling-release model, meaning users can install once and receive continuous updates thanks to the robust Arch Linux software repositories.

Included in pearOS NiceC0re 25.12 is the Linux kernel 6.17, ensuring a performance-oriented base. Users can now enjoy a fully customized KDE experience designed to reflect a polished macOS touch, with specific icon themes and desktop layouts.

For those interested in exploring this latest rendition of pearOS, the ISO snapshot is available for download from the official website. Additionally, interested developers or enthusiasts can monitor ongoing development on the project’s GitHub page.
