postmarketOS 25.12 Launches: A New Era of Mobile Linux Based on Alpine Linux 3.23

postmarketOS 25.12 has been released, marking the latest update of this Linux-based operating system tailored for mobile devices. This upgrade is built on Alpine Linux 3.23 and introduces several enhancements, new features, and improved support for various devices.

The new version includes components from GNOME 49, offering out-of-the-box connectivity for MTP devices, as well as KDE Plasma Mobile 6.5.3. This version enhances Waydroid integration, brings a faster loading lock screen, homescreen improvements, and introduces the Plasma Camera app.

Additionally, the Phosh 0.51 mobile UI in this release boasts enhancements like automatic brightness adjustments, adaptive Rust portals, and thumbnail previews for the file chooser portal. Notable features also include locks screen support for multiple media players and new scaling options, along with a typing indicator pop-up for the Stevia keyboard.

The mobile settings app for Phosh has been updated, allowing it to display a basic settings set from the postmarketOS tweaks app. Users can also now configure terminal layout shortcuts directly through Phosh’s settings.

For the Sxmo mobile UI, now at version 1.18.1, users can enjoy new support for the i3 and River window managers, the addition of a Quick Actions menu, and a shift from the callaudiod daemon to WirePlumber for audio mode management.

Among other notable changes is mobile-config-firefox version 5.1.0, which is geared towards privacy-conscious users. This version features an about:mobile page allowing manual toggling of certain configuration options.

This release also delivers support for various devices, including the Lenovo ThinkSmart View tablet, enhancements for the Acer Chromebook Tab 10’s webcam/camera functionality, upgrades for call audio on the OnePlus 6, and better support for devices like the Fairphone 5, Librem 5, and PinePhone.
