The third monthly snapshot of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, known as Resolute Raccoon, has been released for resolute testers. Canonical’s Utkarsh Gupta announced the availability in an announcement to the ubuntu-devel mailing list. This snapshot marks a milestone in the development cycle, being the half-way point as five snapshots are scheduled before the beta release in March 2026.
While users shouldn’t expect significant visible changes from Snapshot 3, the new system monitor, Resources, and some early GNOME 40 alpha builds are now included. Most alterations remain more technical for the time being, with upcoming February’s Snapshot 4 anticipated to deliver more noticeable improvements for desktop users, especially with the release of the GNOME 50 beta.
It’s important to note that these Ubuntu snapshots are merely developmental snapshots produced on a monthly basis, aimed at testing and refining a new automated build and testing system, rather than being outright stable versions. Each variant of Ubuntu, from Kubuntu to Xubuntu, also provides its own snapshots.
Snapshot 4 is expected on February 26th. Users who choose to install this snapshot should remain cautious as it is still a work in progress; continuing to update will ensure they have the latest features leading up to the final, stable release on April 23, 2026.
