Linux Lite 7.8 Released: A Smooth Experience Based on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS with GTK4 Upgrades

Linux Lite 7.8 has officially launched, featuring the latest updates based on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS and powered by Linux kernel 6.8. This version continues to utilize the lightweight Xfce desktop environment and hosts considerable improvements over previous releases.

One significant change is the porting of a dozen in-house applications to Python and GTK4, enhancing applications like Lite Welcome, Lite Software, and Lite Updates among others. The Lite Software app has been notably updated to support over 20 additional applications, such as Darktable and Kdenlive, broadening the software availability for users.

Developer Jerry Bezencon expressed excitement about the updates, particularly highlighting the expanded capabilities of Lite Software along with improvements in the System Monitoring Center that now displays more comprehensive system information.

Linux Lite 7.8 also adds support for an extensive range of Linux kernels, up to Linux 6.18 LTS, which can be beneficial for users with newer hardware. This flexibility is supported within the Linux Lite repository.

The update further includes several popular default applications such as Google Chrome 144.0, Mozilla Thunderbird 140.7.0 ESR, LibreOffice 25.8.4, VLC 3.0.20, and GIMP 2.10.36, ensuring users have access to effective tools right out of the box.
