Canonical has officially released Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS, marking the fourth point release of the long-term supported Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) series. This update comes six months after the previous version, Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS, and is aimed at providing an up-to-date installation media that incorporates the latest software updates and security patches.
The new release is powered by Linux kernel 6.17 and includes the Mesa 25.2 graphics stack from Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing Quokka). The introduction of this newer kernel offers broader hardware compatibility, while the updated Mesa graphics stack enhances gaming performance.
Users can download the new release in both Desktop and Server flavors, along with various official Ubuntu flavors such as Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Edubuntu, Ubuntu Cinnamon, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Unity, and Ubuntu Kylin.
You can access the downloads from the official website.
Looking ahead, Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS is expected in August 2026. However, this upcoming release will not feature newer kernel or graphics stacks, as Canonical plans to introduce a new LTS series, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon), in April 2026. Current users of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS can rest assured; it is supported for at least five years, ensuring ongoing software updates and security patches until June 2029, with options for extended support through Ubuntu Pro.
