The UBports Foundation has released Ubuntu Touch OTA-1.2 and OTA-12 updates for both Ubuntu Touch 24.04 and 20.04 users. This update is significant as it addresses several issues and enhances functionality, particularly for Sony Xperia X devices, which faced boot issues after the previous update, OTA-1.1. Alongside fixing the boot problem, the update improves mobile data stability during Voice over LTE (VoLTE) usage and streamlines the importing of .ics calendar event files.
Additional enhancements include resolving issues linked to receiving "cell broadcast" messages on different devices, switching mobile data SIM on select dual-SIM devices, and deleting online accounts in the Calendar app. With these updates, the developers aim to encourage users to upgrade to Ubuntu Touch 24.04, limiting future updates for the older 20.04 series to only what is necessary.
Released in September 2025, Ubuntu Touch 24.04 brought significant upgrades, including new branding, a theme switching feature, and support for personal data encryption. The OTA-1.2 update will be available to users through the Updates screen in their System Settings, rolling out gradually, so it may not be immediately available to everyone.
