Firefox VPN Expands: No Data Limits and 28 New Server Locations

Firefox has announced an exciting promotion for its built-in VPN service, offering users unlimited monthly data access until August 31, 2026. In addition to the data lift, users can now choose from an expanded selection of 28 server locations for their browsing traffic, up from just five.

The new server locations include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, and Thailand. This variety allows users to select VPN servers based on location needs, although the default setting usually selects the nearest server for optimal speed.

This change follows the release of Firefox version 151 in May, which introduced the ability to select from a list of VPN servers—though this feature is still rolling out and isn’t yet universal to all users.

However, starting September 1, the free version of the Firefox VPN will revert to a 50GB monthly data limit, along with a reduced array of server locations for non-paying users. This promotional period seems designed to encourage users to explore the features of the paid Mozilla VPN service.

The built-in VPN is free in select regions, including the US, UK, France, Germany, and Canada, and it requires signing into a free Mozilla account. Importantly, the VPN is browser-specific, not system-wide, but it offers some useful features like server location choices and per-site exceptions to keep users from having to toggle the VPN on and off for specific websites.
