Adjusting Night Light Color Temperature on Ubuntu: A Step-by-Step Guide

A new GNOME Shell extension called Night Light Scheduler has been introduced, allowing users to adjust the warmth of their screens at different times throughout the day or evening. While the built-in Night Light feature in GNOME offers a customizable schedule and consistent color temperature, it lacks the ability to vary that temperature throughout the day, sticking with a set level once activated.
For those who want more control over screen warmth, Night Light Scheduler provides the flexibility to set up to seven different color temperatures, ranging from 1500K to 6500K, scheduled in 15-minute increments. Users can customize the transition time between these temperatures, with options spanning from instant changes to smoother, gradual transitions over a period of up to two hours.
This extension is compatible with GNOME versions 46 (Ubuntu 24.04 LTS) through 50 (Ubuntu 26.04 LTS) and leverages the existing Night Light feature without requiring additional software. Installation can be done directly from the GNOME Extensions website or through the Extensions Manager app available in the Ubuntu repositories.
