Ubuntu 26.04 Resolves Trash Dialog Bug: No More Default Cancel Option

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is addressing a bug in Nautilus that mistakenly set the ‘Cancel’ button as the default in the trash confirmation dialog instead of ‘Delete.’ This oversight caused frustration for users who relied on pressing the Enter key to delete files since it resulted in cancellations instead.

Many have found this issue particularly annoying, as it disrupted a long-standing habit of simply hitting Enter to empty the trash. Thankfully, the GNOME developers have acknowledged the mistake, confirming that it was unintentional and a fix has been implemented.

The recent update restores the ‘Delete’ button as the default highlighted option when emptying the trash. This fix is currently available in the proposed branch for testing and is expected to be included in the upcoming 26.04.1 LTS point release.

While this might seem like a minor bug fix, it greatly enhances usability for those accustomed to keyboard shortcuts, ensuring that users can once again easily manage their trash without accidental errors.
