Ubuntu 26.10 Introduces Early Support for Snapdragon X2 Laptops

Canonical has introduced a test version of Ubuntu 26.10 that features early support for laptops equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 processors. This release, based on the Ubuntu 26.10 Beta, aims to identify and resolve potential bugs ahead of the official launch scheduled for October 15. During this testing phase, users are encouraged to provide feedback to enhance the overall experience.
Devices that can run this Ubuntu 26.10 Snapdragon Concept image include the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 (11th generation), HP EliteBook X G2q, and ASUS Zenbook A14/A16. Additionally, support has expanded for devices using Snapdragon X1 chips, with models like the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 and HONOR MagicBook Art 14 now included.
The Ubuntu 26.10 release utilizes the Linux 7.3 kernel, offering significant upgrades over the previous 7.0 kernel found in Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, and improving support for Snapdragon X Elite devices.
What Are Ubuntu Concept Images?
These are experimental, hardware-specific Ubuntu ISOs that Canonical releases for testing without a fixed schedule. Since they are not rigorously tested like other versions and lack formal support, users are advised to proceed with caution. For those interested in trying it on compatible devices, the concept image can be downloaded here. Users should be aware that some features may require firmware extracted from a Windows installation using qcom-firmware-extract.
Although there’s no official support from Canonical, communities often provide unofficial assistance during testing. Bug reports can be filed on Launchpad under the ubuntu-concept project, including the specific laptop model used.
Looking ahead, Canonical has announced plans to collaborate with Qualcomm to develop a certified Ubuntu image for Snapdragon X2 devices, expected to launch in the next year.
