mpv 4.20 Adds DVD and Blu-ray Menu Support, Wayland HDR, and More

The latest release of mpv, the open-source media player, adds DVD and Blu-ray menu navigation, Wayland HDR improvements and a range of other features.
mpv 0.42 can navigate DVD menus and both Blu-ray menu formats: HDMV and BD-J. BD-J requires Java. The release also adds support for DVD-Audio, a format designed for higher-resolution sound. DVD and Blu-ray ISO files can now be played directly without mounting them first.
A new network backend based on libcurl brings HTTP/2, HTTP/3 and connection reuse. Depending on the stream, this may help playback start faster or run more smoothly.
For Wayland users, mpv now supports session management and can register its window with compatible compositors. The window can be named using --wayland-session=, and a new window with the same name can replace an existing session. The update also brings Wayland colour management without Vulkan and improves HDR colour-space signalling for Linux DRM displays.
Other changes include:
- YouTube SRV3 subtitle support through the subrandr library
- Dolby Vision Profile 7 enhancement-layer support in
gpu-next - MPEG-TS programs and HLS quality variants selectable as editions
- A floating on-screen controller with Microsoft Fluent icons
