In the world of Linux clipboard managers few can match the panache of Pano, a GNOME Shell extension I first wrote about last year.
Pano offers an interactive, visually-rich dashboard from which to store, search, and organise your clipboard history. It’s similar to the popular macOS app Paste but arguably better since it’s free, open-source software and works on Linux.
Well, I’m pleased to report that this flashy productivity aid (which can be navigated entirely from the keyboard, if you want) now supports GNOME 45 and Ubuntu 23.10.
Better yet, the add-on now lets you choose where on screen it appears (top, left, right, or bottom), lets you choose the fonts used within its UI, and wiggles the panel icon when new content is copied to the clipboard.
Pano now lets you choose which screen edge it lives at
Pano v22 changes at-a-glance:
- Support for GNOME 45
- Wiggle animation to indicator
- Font customisation
- Window position settings
- Icon-pack selection
These new features supplement the existing ones that the extension already offers, such as adding apps to an exclusion list, altering content preview sizes, toggling keyboard shortcuts used for launch, hiding the panel icon, among other functions.
To install Pano from the GNOME extensions site, it’s easiest on Ubuntu via the Extensions Manager desktop application. You can access this through Ubuntu repositories or on Flathub.
For Ubuntu users wanting to use Pano, it’s necessary to also install the libgda
and gsound
packages. Without these, the extension won’t operate. To set-up these dependencies, execute the sudo apt install gir1.2-gda-5.0 gir1.2-gsound-1.0
command in a terminal application.
In conclusion, this enhancement perfects this interactive, contemporary clipboard manager.
