Enhancements in KDE Frameworks 5.112: Improved Support for NetworkManager 1.44 and Bug Fixes

KDE Project announced the release of KDE Frameworks 5.112 today. This update to the collection of over 80 add-on libraries is crucial to supplying necessary functions for the KDE Plasma desktop environment and KDE apps.

The update to KDE Frameworks 5.112 seems to provide minor improvements, mainly enhancing the support for the NetworkManager 1.44 network management software. This addresses an issue in which the Networks widget in the system tray would unexpectedly vanish or stop showing networks when restarting the NetworkManager system service.

An additional noteworthy change in the KDE Frameworks 5.112 release is a correction for a bug. This bug causes either the Plasma desktop or the KWin window and composite manager to intermittently crash when there are files that are being monitored for changes includes specific types of changes with particular timings.

As expressed by KDE developer Nate Graham, this issue has become easier to trigger with Qt 6 and the approaching KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment. This occurs when switching Kate or Konsole profiles while KRunner’s Kate Sessions or Konsole Profiles runners are active. It is anticipated that the forthcoming KDE Plasma 5.27.10 LTS release will also resolve this issue.

This new release of KDE Frameworks provides support for Cyrillic initials through the Kirigami framework. It also brings updates to the KNotification notifications framework in order to adjust to the notification API and permission alterations found in Android SDK 33. An issue with selection shrinking in the process of indentation in the KTextEditor text editor is also addressed.

Other components such as Baloo, a file indexing and file search system for KDE Plasma, KActivitiesStats, KCalendarCore, KConfig, KCoreAddons, KGlobalAccel, and KIO have all received numerous minor changes. Visit the release announcement page for a full changelog and additional details.

If you are a user of the KDE Plasma desktop environment or are reliant on KDE software, remain vigilant for the stable software repositories of your preferred GNU/Linux distribution for the KDE Frameworks 5.112 packages. Be sure to update your installations immediately when they become available to obtain the best KDE experience.
