The open-source Linux firmware update utility, Fwupd 1.9.17, has been launched today as a new maintenance update for Linux-based systems to extend support for additional devices and increased bug fixes.
Arriving two weeks subsequent to the fwupd 1.9.16 release, fwupd 1.9.17 is presented to extend support for newest devices including the Asus DC201 dual 4K USB-C dock and Realtek Gen1 RTS541x HUB controllers.
This release additionally rectifies bugs, which should prevent the addition of an overly generic instance ID to CrosEC devices, obstruct the reading of OptionROM verification data on Apple hardware, identify when a CCGX dock prohibits downgrade, emit a signal when a user request is no longer valid, and properly display SPDX project licenses with AND as a delimiter.
Furthermore, a possible crash that happened when interpreting invalid CBOR data and an issue where the capture device status changes during bootloader mode has been resolved. Additionally, fwupd 1.9.17 modifies the systemd SystemCallFilter to an allowlist and incorporates support for verifying that syscalls are being accurately filtered at startup.
