The official codename for Ubuntu 24.10 has been revealed.
Despite the recent release of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, development continues at a rapid pace.
Ubuntu developers have commenced preparing the foundation for the next short-term release, slated to launch in October.
Consistent with every new Ubuntu release requiring a unique codename, one has been selected!
Ubuntu 24.10 is known as “Oracular Oriole”.
- Oracular – This is an adjective referring to an oracle.
- Oriole – This refers to a type of bird.
The term “oracular” is often used synonymously with words like “prophetic”, “divinatory”, “sibylline”, “augural”, and so on. It can also indicate that a statement is ambiguous or hard to interpret.
About the bird, orioles are medium-sized birds recognized for their vibrant feathers which contrast with the more subtle colors of their natural surroundings. They are also well-known for their melody. If we were still in the year 2020, there would be room for a “beautiful tweets” pun.
In the realm of “popular culture”, it’s typically the ‘New World’ Orioles, known for their bright golden feathers, that are the subject of discussion when Orioles are mentioned. These birds have been the inspiration behind the naming of numerous high-profile sports groups, such as the Baltimore Orioles baseball team.
