System76 has informed 9to5Linux.com about the launch of an updated version of their Adder WS notebook, now featuring a 14th Gen Intel HX-Class CPU and increased storage capacity.
About a year ago, System76 released the Adder WS laptop, their first Linux notebook to use the NVIDIA 40 series GPU. This range included the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, RTX 4060, and RTX 4070.
In this refreshed edition, the notebook still employs NVIDIA 40 Series visuals, but is upgraded with a 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU. This CPU comes with a 36 MB cache, 24 total cores, a top clock speed of 5.8 GHz, and Intel Iris Xe graphics.
“The AI boom is here, but what comes next? To boost performance even further, System76 is currently updating its laptop range with 14th Gen Intel CPUs. The upgrade has already brought higher clock speeds to the Bonobo WS graphics powerhouse and high-end Serval WS laptops,” said System76.
The new HX-Class 14th Gen Intel processor is a featured component of the latest Adder WS laptop, which also offers enhanced storage capabilities up to 12TB M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD across three drives. Moreover, customers have the option to equip the new Adder WS laptop with an impressive 96GB DDR5 RAM limit.
In terms of connectivity, Adder WS laptop includes Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, an HDMI port with HDCP support, a Mini DisplayPort 1.4 via USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type C), a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type A) port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type A) port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type C) port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with Display Port 1.4 (Type C), along with a 2-in-1 3.5mm audio jack designed for both headphone and microphone usage, and even a separate microphone jack.
Other notable features of the new Adder WS laptop are its 15.6-inch FullHD (1920×1080) matte finish display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 144 Hz refresh rate, a multitouch touchpad, a multi-color backlit chiclet US QWERTY keyboard, a 1.0MP HD camera, a 4-cell Lithium-Ion battery pack rated at 53.35Wh, and a Kensington Lock.
The Linux-powered notebook arrives with the Intel ME (Management Engine) switched off by default, incorporating System76’s open-source firmware which includes Coreboot, EDK2, and System76 Firmware Apps. In addition to that, it’s equipped with System76’s open-source embedded controller firmware and pre-installed with System76’s Ubuntu-based Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS or Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.
