Mozilla has announced the release of Firefox 133, which introduces several new features aimed at improving user experience and website navigation. The browser can now display tabs from other devices in the Tab overview menu, enhancing cross-device usability. Additionally, Windows users will benefit from GPU-accelerated Canvas2D enabled by default, promising better graphics performance.
One of the standout features of this release is the Bounce Tracking Protection. This anti-tracking functionality is integrated into Enhanced Tracking Protection’s Strict mode. According to Mozilla, this protection mechanism identifies bounce trackers through redirect behaviors and periodically deletes their cookies and site data, aiming to thwart potential tracking.
Moreover, Android users will notice enhancements as well, including the default activation of desktop mode browsing for larger devices and the recognition of clipboard content as sensitive during Private Browsing sessions.
On the macOS front, Firefox 133 improves compatibility with macOS Sonoma, resolving specific issues regarding the emoji picker. Additionally, improvements have been made to cookie management and the reliability of the Picture-in-Picture feature on more websites.
Developers will find new functionalities with the inclusion of the keepalive option in the Fetch API and better support for the Permissions API in Worker contexts. The update also aligns the behavior of dialog events with that of popovers for a more consistent user interface.
Firefox 133 is now available for download for Linux, macOS, and Windows users from the official download server. Users can update their installations through the Over-the-Air (OTA) update system starting from the official announcement set for November 26, 2024.
