Mozilla Thunderbird 135 Launches with XZ Packaging for Enhanced Linux Binary Support

Mozilla Thunderbird 135 has been released as the latest version of the open-source email client, featuring notable enhancements and security fixes. This update introduces XZ packaging for Linux binaries, following a similar approach taken with the recent Firefox 135 release. The adoption of this packaging method is expected to result in faster unpacking times, reduced file sizes, and improved compatibility with modern Linux distributions.

In addition to the new packaging format, Thunderbird 135 brings several new features. Users can now specify a cookieStoreId while creating a space and can also ignore unsupported OpenPGP subkeys or signatures during key imports. The update also integrates CardDAV address book and calendar functionality utilizing the same OAuth2 code used for email.

Moreover, several settings have been adjusted for improved user experience. For instance, the "Show missed reminders" option is set to false by default. Other improvements include updates to the attachment handling function, UI and UX enhancements, and the resolution of 12 security vulnerabilities.

This version addresses a multitude of bugs, improving operational aspects such as folder compaction, POP3 support, search functionalities, and more. Users are encouraged to review the comprehensive release notes for a detailed understanding of the changes and fixes introduced in this version.

Thunderbird 135 is available for download from the official website. For those utilizing official binaries, updates can be initiated directly from the application’s About dialog.
