New EndeavourOS Release Features KDE Plasma 6.1 and Restores ARM Support

The EndeavourOS team announced today the release and general availability of EndeavourOS “Endeavour” the latest stable snapshot of this Arch Linux-based distro that features the KDE Plasma 6.1 desktop environment.

Powered by Linux kernel 6.9, the new EndeavourOS release ships with the latest and greatest KDE Plasma 6.1 desktop environment series, along with updated components like the Mozilla Firefox 127 web browser, Mesa 24.1 graphics stack, Xorg Server 21.1.13, NVIDIA 550.90.07 graphics driver, and Calamares 24.06.1.2 graphical installer.

Not many changes are implemented in this release, except for the fact that the Calamares installer should no longer crash during the installation when the EndeavourOS apps are deselected, language selection for Italian users for console should now work, and the r8168 legacy driver package was removed.

But this new EndeavourOS release doesn’t come alone as it’s accompanied by the ARM edition, which was abandoned in early April 2024 due to a lack of maintainers. It turns out that the EndeavourOS ARM edition’s maintainer is back and again in charge of the ARM project.

The EndeavourOS ARM edition is currently supported on the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, Raspberry Pi 5 Model B, Odroid N2, and Pinebook Pro devices. The devs also note the fact that users can perform a headless server installation on both the Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 single-board computers.

“We are following the upcoming support for the Snapdragon X Elite for Linux and when it is there, our goal is to add it to our supported hardware. Also, we are still looking for Mac M1, M2, M3, and ThinkPad or other major brand owners with ARM architecture who want to collaborate with us to create install images for those,” said the devs.

EndeavourOS “Endeavour” is available for download right now from the official website. Since EndeavourOS is based on Arch Linux and follows a rolling release model where you install once and receive updates forever, existing EndeavourOS users need only to update their installations.
