Linux hardware vendor System76 has introduced an upgraded version of its Serval WS laptop, catering to both engineering and gaming audiences. The new model is equipped with powerful hardware including an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, which boasts 24 cores and threads. Additionally, it features a 16-inch 2K display with a resolution of 2560×1600, a 240Hz refresh rate, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics.
The laptop supports significant memory and storage configurations, allowing up to 96GB of DDR5 RAM and a maximum of 12TB with both PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 SSD options. Connectivity options include 2.5 GbE Ethernet, WiFi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4, while other features comprise a multi-touch touchpad, a backlit QWERTY keyboard, Thunderbolt 4, HDMI video outputs, and a 5.0MP HD camera.
System76 continues its tradition by pre-installing the laptop with its Pop!_OS Linux 22.04 LTS, based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, or users can opt for the new Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. The company is also developing the COSMIC desktop environment, which is set to enter beta and promises to enhance user experience with improved battery life and additional features.
The Serval WS can be purchased now from System76’s online store, starting at $2,999 for the basic model that includes 32 GB DDR5 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe SSD. Shipping is expected to commence in late May 2025.
