BleachBit 6.0.6 Released with Fixes for Linux Admin Cleaning

BleachBit 6.0.6 is a maintenance update to the free, open-source system-cleaning utility, adding support for Ubuntu 26.10 alongside new cleaners and performance improvements.

The release adds cleaners for the Helium browser and Docker Desktop, including its AI assistant. It also speeds up application startup, deep scans, file deletion and secure wiping. File wiping now works in 512 KiB blocks rather than 4 KiB.

Several existing cleaners have been expanded. BleachBit can optionally remove stale crash reports, GPU caches and session files associated with Claude, VS Code-based editors and Chromium. LibreWolf cleaning now supports both Debian packages and Flatpak installations on Linux. Ubuntu users can also remove more old Snap revisions.

The update includes an official .deb installer for Ubuntu 26.10. It also fixes issues with running BleachBit’s administrator mode on Red Hat by switching to pkexec; the same approach is recommended for administrator mode on Ubuntu when using the .deb version.

Windows receives platform-specific fixes and an updated logo. Linux and BSD packages now include an SVG icon. Development of the macOS version continues, with new cleaners for Adobe Acrobat, Claude, Devin, GIMP, Google Earth, TeamViewer, Visual Studio Code, VLC, Zen Browser and Zoom.

BleachBit 6.0.6 is available from the official download page, which offers packages and runtimes for major operating systems, including .deb and AppImage options for Ubuntu. The project’s release notes list the full changes.
