Firefox 151: New Tab Page Revamp, PDF Merging, and Exciting New Features

The latest update to Firefox, version 151, introduces a refreshed new tab page now called Firefox Home. This update, rolling out on May 18, features a revamped look with a rounded search bar inspired by the forthcoming Nova redesign. Users will now be able to display more shortcuts, up to four rows, on this new tab page. The placement of the button for following topics has been moved to the left side, enhancing overall accessibility.

Mozilla is also excited about introducing various new widgets for the new tab page, including options like notes and timer, which are currently in testing via Firefox Labs. Additionally, users can expect a selection of new backgrounds to personalize their browsing experience.

In terms of user customization, the Firefox Home page allows for dismissing individual stories and blocking specific topics, thus enabling users to curate their content to an extent. However, it’s worth noting that content personalization remains enabled by default.

This update brings several other design enhancements, particularly within the settings menu, which now offers a more compact layout and a full-width search bar in the preferences panel.

Another significant addition in Firefox 151 is a session clearing button in Private Browsing Mode, allowing users to clear cookies, history, and site data without needing to close the private window. This feature borrows inspiration from the DuckDuckGo Browser’s "Fire" mode, albeit without the accompanying animations.

The update also enhances the browser’s built-in PDF viewer, enabling users to merge multiple PDF files into a single document directly in Firefox, a convenient feature that adds to its appeal.

Firefox 151 aims to improve privacy as well, with enhanced fingerprinting protection in its Standard Enhanced Tracking Protection mode to make it harder for websites to track user activity across different sites.

Users can download Firefox 151 from Mozilla’s FTP or through the official Firefox website starting April 19, 2026. For existing users, the update will automatically roll out, particularly for Windows and macOS, while Ubuntu users will receive background updates since Firefox operates as a Snap on that platform. Linux Mint users can update through the Mint Update tool or the command line using apt. For those using the Firefox Flatpak, updates can be done via the command line or through a GUI app like Bazaar.
