A new version of ONLYOFFICE, the open-source productivity suite, has been released, featuring a modest set of improvements. This update, arriving almost two months after ONLYOFFICE halted its eight-year partnership with Nextcloud over licensing concerns, has led to changes in both its features and licensing terms.
ONLYOFFICE 9.4 tightens its licensing language regarding attribution, copyright notices, and the labeling of modified versions while still allowing modifications. Users can now access Croatian language translations in all editors and enjoy new features such as dedicated settings for chart design, moving chart settings from the right panel, and enhanced paste options for rich formatted snippets like tables.
In the Document Editor, users can now insert horizontal lines to improve document hierarchy, while the Spreadsheet Editor introduces dark mode support for sheets, which can be toggled if the dark theme is set. The Presentation Editor now offers 25 professionally designed themes and 20 new slide transitions to liven up presentations.
The Forms Editor has also seen improvements. It now defaults to the most recently added image signature when adding signatures to forms and includes new panels for “Send for signing” and “Filling status.”
This release also addresses multiple security vulnerabilities, including issues in XLS-to-XLSX conversion and macro sandbox bypasses.
Where to download ONLYOFFICE 9.4
You can download ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors for Windows, macOS, or Linux from the official website or find installers on the project GitHub releases page. For Linux users, while standalone versions do not provide automatic updates, the latest version can be installed over existing installations, retaining settings and preferences.
