OpenShot 4.0 Unveiled: Explore New Color Grading, Recording Dock, and Qt 6 Support

OpenShot 4.0 has officially been released, introducing a range of new features such as a Qt 6 interface, advanced color grading tools, and a new recording dock. The migration to Qt 6 enhances the software’s backend, providing improved support for Wayland and reliable fractional scaling, although the visual appearance remains largely unchanged.
A significant new feature is the color grading effect, which comes with tools for assessing color, curve editing, and applying corrections using color wheels. This update addresses one of the editor’s major shortcomings – the lack of professional-level color correction tools.
The new recording dock allows users to manage input devices, monitor audio levels in real-time, and record video and audio directly into projects from various sources like microphones and webcams. During recording, clips can be seen on the timeline and integrated into the project once completed.
OpenShot continues to enhance its AI/ML capabilities. The latest update includes built-in AI effects such as object detection and generative AI tools through a ComfyUI server. Four new workflows have been added for audio processing, including noise reduction and voice enhancement.
The update introduces several new video effects like shadow, glow, and film grain, enhancing the creative options for users. Additionally, the interface has undergone minor improvements, with a cleaner look due to adjustments in the menu and shortcut features.
Notably, OpenShot 4.0 is the first version that hasn’t crashed during testing, a promising sign for stability and reliability. Downloadable installers are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and updates will be provided via the OpenShot PPA.
